The testing facility includes 50,000 lb closed-loop, servo-hydraulic Materials Testing System (MTS) universal load frame used for tensile, compression, fatigue (both strain and load controlled), creep, flexural, shear and fracture toughness testing. Tests can be conducted at sub-ambient through elevated temperatures. Special fixtures for bi-axial tensile, fatigue, Iosipescu shear, and compression testing of composite and traditional materials are utilized. A wide range of extensometers are available. A complete spectrum of strain gages is used to supplement the extensometry equipment for extreme environment applications.

Micrographic Evaluation

Our micrography laboratory is equipped to perform microstructural examination and post test evaluation of composite, metallic, and nonmetallic materials and components. Three different optical borescopes (two rigid and one flexible) are available for inspection of difficult-to-access parts and structures. Cobham has access to local SEM, TEM, and AES analysis facilities.
