Structural Analysis and Design

Cobham Composite Products offers complete structural design capabilities to our customers as required for each program. Structural and thermal analyses can be performed using the finite element (FE) method. Cobham has several modern FE pre/post processing programs available to rapidly develop finite element models and display analysis results. These include MSC.PATRAN, ABAQUS, SDRC I DEAS, and FEMAP. Structural analysis is conducted using MSC.NASTRAN and the complete ALGOR suite of finite element tools. We also have a suite of specialty codes available for performing unique analyses. For example, the SQ5 code will be used to assist in the design, analysis, and optimization of composites. The NASA FLAGRO program is available to perform fatigue/fracture analyses.

CAD - Solid Modeling Suites

Cobham supports all the major CAD/solid modeling suites including SolidWorks, ProEngineer, Unigraphics and CATIA. This suite of design software allows us to provide seamless communication with our customer design teams by providing a common database for geometry definition between part design, tool design and tool CNC fabrication.

Composite Engineering, Ply Design & Nesting

We utilize FiberSim to complete ply nesting and to generate ply cutting patterns for one of our two NC ply cutting tables.
